11 Abstraction
Abstraction. this is taking pictures and simplifying them down to its simplist form. This piece by Julien Chung is a kind of very light and playful take on abstraction. the objects in the octopuses hands are just the basic shapes as is everything else in the picture. Even though this is a very slight interpretation of abstraction I really love this piece.
10 Idealism
Idealism. this is used to show how things should be or how they would be in a ideal, perfect world. This piece by Natalia Fabia portrays a girll in this beautiful landscape with flowers and a beautiful sky.
9 Distortion
distortion. this is basically the complete opposite of what rules would dictate in a piece. in this piece by Esao Andrews the distortion is mainly focused in the girl and in the picture frame.
8 Naturalism
Naturalism. Artist use this type of art to show things how they actually appear. In this painting by Natalia Fabia the woman is portrayed very realistically even the icecream has a lot of realistic detail put into it. this artist is very good at portraying naturalism in her pieces some of them at first glance even look like photograhs.
7 Lost and Found Contour
Lost and found contour. This is the use and disappearance of contour lines in a piece. In this piece by Emiliano Ponzi this type of contour is used brilliantly the shape that the woman is hugging only uses the illusion that it is there. you can see the shape of another body in the parts that are missing from the womans body but in the other parts it is impossible to find against the background
6 Line as Value
Line as value. Using line as value means that you use hatching and cross hatching to form shadows and different values in the piece. In this drawing by Nancy Chiu she uses lines to shadow in the tomatoe and its shadow.
5 Gesture Line
Gesture lines. these are used to show some type of movement and flow freely around in the piece to guide the eye. this piece by Joe Ciardiello uses a light form of gesture lines in the guitarist hands and body the piece has a sort of motion that you cant help but feel.
4 Contour Line
contour lines. These lines are used to outline the basic shape of objects. Cosimo Galluzzi used basic contour lines to make the people working out in the gym. as you can see most of the detail in the people is focused in body shape and the clothing outline and how it would fit to the body.
3 Line as Emotion
Line as emotion. This piece by Nancy Chiu does a good job of capturing the use of line to portray a overall feel. all the lines in this piece are very flowing and whimsical adding to the feeling of sadness and kind of solitude in the piece.
